WRITE | The Baggage of Feeling Sexy

WRITE | The Baggage of Feeling Sexy

So I don’t know where I’ve been, but lately I have watched all types of old clips from the first season of The Real and I absolutely love the show! Ha! I saw a few episodes here and there but with work, I rarely get a chance to actually check it out. I love their transparency on the show. Bottom line, no one on TV is talking about the issues they talk about as openly and honestly as they do and I am so here for it. I stumbled across a clip called “Baggage Check” where the ladies discussed some of the baggage that they carry along with them and I was surprised to hear Tamara Mowry-Housley talk about her insecurity with being labeled the cute but goofy twin instead of the “sexy” one.

I saw Natelegé tweet this and what echoed loudly was the safe space to BE. See one thing I seem to observe about women of color is this feeling that we always have to be on, strong, and ready for whatever it is that may come our way. But the reality is, black women are looking for spaces to BE. That’s exactly what Erica of Everything ENJ created at the What Binds Us Together Brunch in New York on August 15th.

RECAP | Be Bold in Body, Style & Grace

I remember being extremely nervous in 2013 when kicking off the very first Bold, Brown & Beautiful event in DC. My decision to bring the event to DC was very random. I had no audience there at all, though I had family in the area and somehow felt some allegiance to DC. But I did it anyway. We packed our car up, and we drove to DC and we did the event and it was amazing. There is something about DC, that speaks to me and I love the women there and their energy. And so … we did it again!
